Explanation of the NAMMDR concerning the VERORAB rabies vaccine
The National Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Romania (NAMMDR) hereby informs that the batch of the VERORAB rabies vaccine delivered to Romania last week exhibited a quality non-compliance caused by the failure to maintain the appropriate temperature conditions during transport; thus, the batch has been placed in quarantine by the manufacturer.
An investigation has been launched, and the entire batch is most likely to be destroyed.
In order to ensure the continuity of treatment, the NAMMDR has granted emergency approval on Friday, the 24th of July — the same day the request was received from the manufacturer—for the documents required to rapidly import a replacement batch.
Manufacturer Sanofi has confirmed that approximately 18,600 doses of the VERORAB vaccine will arrive from France next week—a quantity sufficient to fully meet the needs of hospitals nationwide, until the following delivery.
Pending the arrival of the vaccine doses, hospitals may redistribute available supplies among themselves if necessary.
